When S.L. MacGregor Mathers was expelled from the original order of the Golden Dawn, following the ordeal with Aleister Crowley, he formed the Alpha et Omega. Said order had modified teachings of the Golden Dawn, often said to be lacking in magical potency and grace. Though the order dissolved in the 1940's, there are modern groups who rely on gaps in published history to claim unbroken lineage through this order and Mathers.
